On Tesla's October 21, 2026 earnings call, AI leader Ashok Elluswamy said Tesla expects it may enable some customer-owned vehicles to join its managed Robotaxi fleet around Q2 2027.
Not unrestricted consumer FSD
The described capability would operate within Tesla-managed geofenced Robotaxi service areas, with fleet management and other requirements. It should not be confused with a release allowing every FSD (Supervised) owner to drive anywhere without paying attention.
Elluswamy also discussed bringing software related to Tesla's Robotaxi fleet to customers in a future FSD version. The Q2 2027 timing is a company target, not a guaranteed release date.
Why it matters
The distinction between supervised driver assistance and autonomous fleet operation is central to understanding Tesla's roadmap. Eligibility, approved locations, regulatory requirements and the ability for private owners to participate all remain important open questions.
