Waymo Announces Nearly 250 Square Miles of Robotaxi Expansion Across Five Markets

Waymo announced on October 27, 2026 that it would add nearly 250 square miles of driverless ride-hailing coverage over the following week across five existing US service markets: Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area.

These are extensions of existing service areas, not five new city launches.

Where coverage is expanding

  • Los Angeles: South Bay coverage extends toward Torrance.
  • Nashville: Service extends farther south, including access toward the zoo.
  • Orlando: Expanded eastern coverage and additional downtown access.
  • San Diego: Coverage extends north to La Jolla.
  • San Francisco Bay Area: Additional South Bay destinations, including a Berryessa BART connection in San Jose.

Waymo did not break down the new square mileage by market or announce fleet additions for each city.

Rollout is phased

The company described the expansion as taking place over the week following October 27. Riders should check Waymo's app and service-area maps for the currently available pickup and drop-off points rather than assume every planned extension is active immediately.

Why it matters for Tesla Robotaxi coverage

Waymo's geographic expansion offers a useful comparison with Tesla's growing Houston Robotaxi operating area. Coverage maps alone do not establish equal vehicle availability, trip times or fleet size.
