Zoox has leased two industrial buildings totaling 353,653 square feet at 25500 Clawiter Road in Hayward, California, near its existing 220,000-square-foot robotaxi factory.
The expansion more than doubles the company's local industrial footprint near the factory. A Zoox spokesperson confirmed to the San Francisco Chronicle that the additional space will help the company scale its purpose-built robotaxi fleet.
What the lease does—and does not—confirm
The new buildings provide Zoox with more space as it prepares to expand its robotaxi operations. However, Zoox has not disclosed how the buildings will be used—whether for manufacturing, storage, logistics or another purpose.
The lease does not establish an increase in vehicle production capacity, a new fleet-size target, or a new passenger-service launch.
Why it matters for the robotaxi market
Zoox is developing a purpose-built driverless vehicle, making it an important point of comparison for Tesla's Cybercab strategy. Physical facility expansion is a concrete sign of investment in future operations, even when vehicle production volumes and deployment schedules remain undisclosed.
What to watch next
The next meaningful developments will be confirmation of how Zoox uses the new facilities, any revised production targets, and announced expansions of passenger operations.
