Slovakia Moves Toward Tesla FSD Supervised Approval

Slovakia is preparing to authorize Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) driver-assistance system, but the country has not yet confirmed that authorization is complete.

Transport Minister Jozef Ráž said on October 7, 2026, that Slovakia expects to move ahead within days. The Slovak Transport Ministry also published an announcement saying it had held talks with Tesla and that the process was progressing.

What happens next?

According to Reuters, Ráž said Slovakia would send a recognition letter to the Netherlands. The Dutch vehicle regulator RDW approved Tesla's FSD Supervised system earlier in 2026 and has acted as the lead authority in Tesla's European approval process.

The minister said the system would become available in Slovakia once the letter is delivered. As of the October 8 report, however, the recognition step was still described as forthcoming, not finished.

If completed, Slovakia would become the ninth European Union country to authorize the technology, Reuters reported.

FSD Supervised is not a robotaxi authorization

The Slovak minister emphasized that the human driver remains responsible for the vehicle. Tesla FSD Supervised is a driver-assistance system, not permission for an unoccupied vehicle or fully autonomous robotaxi service.

The minister also said the technology could improve road safety. That is the government's stated rationale, not an independently established conclusion about crash-rate reductions in Slovakia.

Why this matters for Europe

Slovakia's announcement is another step in the country-by-country expansion of FSD Supervised in Europe, alongside the national decisions already reported for the Czech Republic and Croatia.

A national recognition process is separate from EU-wide authorization, which remains under discussion. RobotaxiGuy previously reported that the expected October EU vote was delayed, with December emerging as the next potential decision window.

What to watch

The key confirmation will be the delivery of Slovakia's recognition letter and an official announcement that drivers can activate FSD Supervised there. Until then, Slovakia should be listed as approval expected / pending, rather than approved.
